What could be the reason for chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and coughing out yellowish-white mucus?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having chest pain close to my throat and coughing out yellowish-white mucus. I cannot breathe in hot temperatures but can breathe only in moist temperatures. I am also having difficulty laughing and speaking for 10 minutes. I cannot sleep on my left side because of the pain in the left-hand side of my throat, along with difficulty swallowing.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Most probably, the pain is due to an infection in the chest. As you mentioned, you have a cough and difficulty breathing. Is there any redness at the back of the mouth? First of all, I would suggest you do a chest X-ray in PA (posteroanterior) view to know the severity of the infection. Along with it, please get an ECG (electrocardiogram) and CBC (complete blood count) test. Once you do the test, please send me the reports. I will check and prescribe you medicine accordingly.

My advice for now:

Consult your specialist doctor, talk to them, and take medication after their consent.

  1. Tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once a day before breakfast.
  2. Tablet Montair-LC (Levocetirizine and Montelukast) once a day before sleeping.
  3. Syrup Bromhexine one teaspoon twice daily.

Take these medications for three days and let me know.

Thank you.
