Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My son is 2 years old. He has been coughing for more than two months now. He coughs every time he wakes up from sleep and whenever his back would sweat. The cough starts dry then would eventually sound thundery with phlegm. He also gets irritated with his nose sometimes. I could smell foul smell from his mouth and nose sometimes too. Also, I have observed his nostrils to expand whenever his coughing would strike.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern. According to your statement, your 2 years old baby has been suffering from cough for more than two months and you could smell bad smell from his mouth and nose.
Chronic cough with foul-smelling can result from any respiratory tract infections such as bronchiolitis, pneumonia, chronic sinus infection or postnasal drip, etc. So I think your baby should be given antibiotics prophylaxis for his respiratory tract infection.
You should give him the medications as follows:-
Syrup Actimax one teaspoon twice daily for 10-14 days.
Syrup Ventolin (Salbutamol and Guaiphenesin) half teaspoon three times daily for 14 days.
Syrup Zaditen (Ketotifen) one teaspoon at night for 14 days.
Saline nasal drops one to two drops in each nostril three to four times daily in case of nasal congestion or blockage.
I think by following the above mentioned medications, your baby will be free from his chronic cough with associated problems.
I hope this helps.
