Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My child is three months old. She is suffering from a cough and cold. For cough, a doctor had suggested Asthalin 100 ml syrup, 2 ml three times for my child. I have given her only once, and after that she is crying like anything. Is it the effect of the dosage or is it normal sir? Her present weight is 11.66 pounds.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I would like to have some more information. Kindly answer the following questions for me to guide you better.

  1. Does she have only a cough, no fever, or any other problem?

  2. Is she feeding well?

  3. Is there any fast breathing or noisy breathing?

  4. Does she sleep for some time comfortably?

  5. Is she passing urine well?

At three months of age, I will not recommend these medications. If your baby is not having any difficulty in breathing, not having a fever, feeding normally, or passing urine well, then stop all medications. Asthalin (Salbutamol) syrup is usually not recommended at this age.. During a cough and cold, the nose may get blocked and the baby usually cries due to this. I would suggest you only use Normal Saline nasal drops, two drops in each nostril every four hours for three days. Keep the baby's head a bit low while instilling the drops in the nose.

Kindly revert with the answers and I will let you know if anything else is to be done..

I hope this helps you.
