Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 27-year-old female. I cry and empathize with a character in a movie, but I cannot project these feelings in real life. I do not feel anything when someone is suffering and crying next to me unless he is a very close person, and not all the time. I met a guy who fit my idea of how a man should be and lost my head for a week, then started looking for defaults in his image, pushed him away and made him feel wrong about everything after a while. I suffered for one day or two and try my best not to contact him again. Then it all goes away. It is like I have never felt anything. I do not know how to explain why I need to hurt him. I am overly possessive, and I need to control everything. I am jealous, and I have low self-esteem. Sometimes, I cannot care about things people usually care about. A dead relative, an accident, my mother, family, their problems and struggles, beaten animals, and bloody pictures. I always thought this was ordinary people's feelings and never questioned myself too much about it. Is it normal not to feel things?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

It is usual for a person to be involved less or feel less in situations or feel differently from others at that moment. It is normal to feel jealous, and it is normal to be less concerned about things or people unless it is causing trouble to you or others. If you are not bothered about your feelings or characteristics, I suggest you take your time. It is in your personality which cannot be changed. But thoughts can be changed or controlled with the help of medicines or relaxation. So, if all these things are troubling you, start doing regular meditation and light exercise. Eat healthy, have a good sound sleep. This will help you a lot and will reduce these kinds of thoughts.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
