Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I require a review of my CT scan report, along with guidance on the findings. As I could not download the DICOM, I resorted to capturing 20 individual screenshots from the report. I can supply additional screenshots as required.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to iclinic.com.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

In the provided images (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), a region of lung lucency is observed in the upper lobe of the right lung in the first image. This finding is non-specific, and it is important to review all the other images for a comprehensive assessment. The remaining images you have shared do not exhibit any significant abnormalities.

To ensure a thorough evaluation, please upload the DICOM files of the complete scan to a file-sharing platform and provide the download link so that I can access and analyze the images. Additionally, sharing your medical history details would aid in a more accurate interpretation of the images.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your response.

Currently, I do not possess DICOM images; however, I have requested them from the hospital, and I expect to have them by next week, at which point I will upload them. I have been informed that there are pulmonary cysts present within the superior segment of the right lower lobe and right upper lobe. I have a couple of questions before I upload the DICOM files.

  1. How common are cysts like these? This was an incidental finding, and my chest X-ray appeared clear.
  2. What is the significance of these cysts in terms of prognosis and understanding their implications?

I appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed the mentioned air-containing cyst-like area in the right lung upper lobe. However, it appears that the images of the right lung lower lobe superior segment are not included in the materials you have shared (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

Air-containing lung cysts are relatively common, seen in approximately 5 to 10 percent of CT chest scans. These air-containing cysts represent thin-walled, less dense portions of the lung and may lack normal lung tissue in some cases. Isolated air-containing cysts are generally non-specific findings and can be associated with various conditions. In most individuals, they are not likely to cause serious issues. The presence and pattern of cysts may suggest specific medical conditions. In terms of prognosis, smaller benign cysts typically remain stable over time and are considered harmless. Larger benign cysts are referred to as bullae and, in rare cases, may rupture, leading to pneumothorax. In some instances, air-containing infective cysts can result from ongoing or recent lung infections, while others may have inflammatory or airway-related conditions contributing to the development of these cysts.

I hope this explanation clarifies the situation. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you.
