Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a Carabelli cusp on my back molar and a number of dentists have suggested shaving it down. How much should they trim? Also, would it feel rough and sharp?

Please help.

Hiello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

It is a normal anatomical entity found in approximately five to 15 percent of the population. So there is no need to shave it off if it is not making any functional hindrance. Otherwise, you can shave it off till you get normal occlusion. If there is an exposure to dentin, make sure you do composite restoration over it to prevent post-operative caries.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
