Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I do not have any symptoms, but my D-dimer levels are very high. I do not have any history of vascular disease, pulmonary embolism, or blood clots.
My question is, I discovered the D-dimer elevation three weeks after my first COVID-19 vaccine. Can I get my second dose if I still have high D-dimer levels?
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I hope you are doing well in the pandemic. As you said, you have no signs and symptoms of any disease, and you got vaccinated a few months back, and your D-dimers are pretty high, indicating that you have some low- to intermediate-grade clotting state.
And, as per your history, this is due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease-2019) vaccine. So, there is nothing to worry about. So, if you want to go for the second dose of the vaccine, you should take an oral anticoagulant such as Rivaroxaban 20 mg per day for one week before the second dose. And also, continue the tablet for 15 days after the vaccination and repeat the D-dimer test.
Thanks.
