Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend had her periods on the 28th of last month, and it continued up to the 3rd of this month. We had unprotected sex on the 9th of this month for a few minutes, a maximum of 2 minutes, and did not ejaculate within her. In fear of pregnancy, I gave her I-pill on the 10th of this month around 3 pm. She took it within 24 hours. On the 16th of this month, suddenly, she bleeds at night, and the bleeding stopped in the morning. But she did not get her periods yet. I did UPT today morning in the morning. I used the Prega News two kits. In one kit, I added three drops of urine, and in another, I added four drops of urine. In the second one, I felt that mild faint line looks as if I see very closely. Otherwise, it looks negative. Please do suggest when the period would come? I am very stressed and depressed.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and the anxiety you both have. So firstly, let me assure both of you that you guys need not panic.

The girl had periods till the 3rd of this month, so I do not feel that she had eggs released from ovaries for fertilization on the sixth day post periods, so the pregnancy chances were low. However, let me advise you that whether you had an ejaculation or not but unprotected sex can lead to pregnancy, whether for two minutes or more, so I appreciate that you guys took the emergency contraceptive pill. So just do not worry. I think you guys will not get pregnant. The emergency contraceptive pill can cause light bleeding in certain females within the week to ten days to post the dose. Also, it leads to delay in periods by up to ten days to two weeks, so just do not worry. The way you have done the pregnancy test is perfectly fine. It has to be done with the first urine of the day for an accurate result. Do not drink too much fluid prior to the test. Adhere to all guidelines written on the package of the pregnancy test kit. Having seen your Prega News kit, you are right that when you see closely, it is faint, but it is not indicating pregnancy. I request if it is possible and since you guys are under stress, just do a blood hCG test. It can be done easily in any diagnostic center. Otherwise, based upon the details and the details shared, it does not appear to be pregnancy.

Just do not worry. I am always there for you. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much. But when will the period come? Approximately what could be the date? Because according to the data the period has to come on 28th of the last month.

Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for your reply.

Several females experience a delay in the period due to emergency contraceptive pills as these pills are hormone-based and have this known side effect. So you can expect the periods by approximately 12th of next month. However, since you guys are stressed out, I request you to take a blood hCG test. It will help ease your mental stress. Do not worry. I am always there for you. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Her period started on the 28th of last month and ended on the 3rd of this month. We had unprotected sex after six days. She took I-pill within 24 hours. She had slight bleeding at night after a week and bleeding stopped in the morning. What is the right date to do a pregnancy test? When hCG levels would be high in urine? She did not get her periods till now. What is the missed period date? I am so stressed and depressed. Kindly answer my questions.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. First, do not get tensed. It is nothing to get panic. Let me explain to you again. For getting pregnant, the sperms have to be ejaculated inside the vagina of the female. Then the sperms need to fertilize an egg. The fertilized egg needs to be implanted in the uterus of the female. When all this happens successfully, then the female is said to have conceived. For future remembrance, whether ejaculation was there or not, the precum has adequate sperm content that leads to pregnancy. So kindly use protection. In your case, as discussed earlier, the availability of eggs is unlikely. The emergency contraceptive pill works at three different stages when taken in time. Firstly, it prevents the release of eggs, secondly, it prevents fertilization of an egg, and thirdly, it prevents implantation of the egg in the uterus. In your case, the ECP was taken well in time and also based upon the information presented by you, I feel that pregnancy chances are low. But ECP delays periods in many females.

Coming to your questions one by one, you can do a pregnancy test today as well. You can go for a blood HCG test in any nearby diagnostic center. This is more reliable than a urine pregnancy test especially in early pregnancy or you can do a urine pregnancy test at home with the first urine of the day for more accurate results. Do not drink too much fluid prior to the test. Adhere to all guidelines written on the package of a pregnancy test kit. If the period cycle is 28 days for the last several cycles then missed period date is the 28th of this month, provided that there is no history of irregular periods. However as we had discussed earlier with emergency contraceptive pills, it is not getting delayed. Do not take the stress and do not panic as stress is known to delay periods in 25 % of females worldwide. You can do the blood HCG test today if possible, please.

Do not worry. I am always there for you. No need to panic. God bless you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

If the test is positive, then how many days of pregnancy? After how many days, hCG remains high in urine? A study says that after intercourse, hCG can be detected in the urine after conception. Is it true? She is 18 years ld and took I-pill for the first time. Is this safe?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, two weeks detect hCG in blood when it is not reliable in urine. However in your case, you had intercourse on the 9th of this month, so if we take a maximum of five days for conceiving, then it is fine to do a urine pregnancy test. Do it carefully and see it immediately and click pictures. Yes, I-pill as long as not taken in overdose is fine. There is no problem with her being 18 years old. Please do a blood HCG test also if possible as it is more reliable and if you guys cannot visit, then a UPT (urine pregnancy test) is the way out. In any case do not get panic. You guys are fine. God bless you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

We did UPT today. Kindly see my reports. She did not get her periods till now. I am so worried. Is there any chance to have a positive result? On the last intercourse, I did not ejaculate inside her. She took I-pill within 24 hours. It has been 36 days after intercourse. After 36 days, can the test be positive? Will the hCG level increase after 36 days? Please answer my questions.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have seen the image shared by you. It is clearly negative. It has been 36 days and as you had already taken the emergency contraceptive pill within the stipulated time frame, so there is no need to worry. Now, we have again done a pregnancy test and it's negative. So do not worry and do not panic. Even if we take this as late ovulation and late conception, then 36 days is a very long period. There should not be any likelihood of pregnancy now. We can wait for three to four days for the periods to come and maybe we can start medicines for the period. Do not be worried. God bless you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

If periods did not come, then please suggest some medicine to get her periods. I will definitely consult you back.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks, do not panic. You guys are fine. Let us wait for three to four days as emergency contraceptive pills lead to delay in periods in certain females. There is no need to worry. I am always there for you both. God bless you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

She did a beta hCG blood test on the 20th. She did not get her periods till now. Kindly see her reports. Is she pregnant? Does 20th is the right time to do the beta hCG test? or does she needs to do it again after some days of confirmation. Kindly clear my doubt.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Firstly take care of yourself and stay safe from COVID. Her beta hCG levels are less than 2 mIU/mL and hence she is conclusively not pregnant. 20th is a good gap and the test is well after the time-lapse. No need to do the test again. You are safe. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. God bless you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

She did not get her periods till now. Kindly suggest medicine for her periods. When she will get her periods?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There are many medicines available for periods. But her condition is not severe and the I-pill side effect is causing a delay in periods. So just wait for a week and she should get the period. Periods with the medicine need to refrain as it leads to dependence on hormonal medicines. With the test being negative now, there is no need to worry. Periods shall be there hopefully in a week's time. Do not take stress as stress is leading to delay in periods of 25 % of females worldwide. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. God bless you.
