Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife had her last period in the middle of this month. We had protected sex during the end of this month. There was not any slippage or lapse in protection during sex. She has not got her next period yet. Although she does not have morning sickness, food aversion, nausea, or any such symptoms of early pregnancy, she has been complaining of mild headaches, intermittent abdominal cramps, and slight pain in the right leg for the past few days.

She will be taking a pregnancy test in the next couple of days.

Are abortion pills the right choice at this stage if the result is positive? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Does she have regular periods? If yes, then the cycle is for how many days? Has she experienced any irregularities in the period before?

If you had protected intercourse at the end of the month, she is already almost 52 days late since her last menstrual period. Therefore, I will recommend you take a urine pregnancy test immediately and repeat it with the first urine of the day the next day. I will not recommend any abortion pill at this stage, as pregnancy has not been confirmed. However, medicines have side effects, which are best avoided if possible. Share the test outcome. Based on that, we can decide whether it is pregnancy, delayed periods, or something else.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

She tested twice, and both tests came negative. She always had regular periods, with the cycle occurring every 28 to 30 days, and the periods last for about five days. Kindly advise.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If the urine pregnancy test is negative, then I will give progesterone withdrawal pills for periods. Tablet Regesterone 5 mg (Norethindrone) twice daily for five days. Then wait for withdrawal bleeding.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
