Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend said to me that she was four to five days late on her period. Before her last period two months ago, she took a plan b, and 15 days later, she had another period. On the second day of her period, we had sex, but the condom broke, and I am sure that I did not cum inside her. What is the reason for a delayed period, if she is late by three to five days?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

If you had sex during periods, no need to worry about pregnancy. Other causes are:

  1. It can be due to infection – if white discharge, you can use tablet Doxycycline 100 mg (milligram) twice daily for five days.

  2. It can be due to hormonal issues – plan for TFT (thyroid function test).

  3. It can be due to PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) – Plan for an ultrasound abdomen.

  4. It can be due to anemia – check for hemoglobin.

  5. It can be due to vitamin deficiency – check for folic acid, vitamin B, or D.

  6. It can be due to dehydration – make sure you take adequate water.

For now, you can take the tablet Livogen (Iron) once a night and plan for investigation so we can plan for management.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
