Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had unprotected sex and took the Unwanted-72 pill within 24 hours. Unfortunately, I got withdrawal bleeding after six days, and it continued for about four to five days. Later, my period was delayed for seven days the next month. So, I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative. What should I do?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

So my question is when was your last menstrual period? Since you had unprotected sex, you took the Unwanted-72 tablet, and you did the pregnancy test that came out negative. All you need to do is to wait. You will get your period, but sometimes there may be a delay since you have taken the contraceptive pill. Hormonal factors will play a role in delaying the period, so do not stress out and stay calm. Despite this, if your periods are still delayed, I suggest you do a urinary pregnancy test, preferably a morning urine sample. Suppose it is negative, and you still did not get your periods. In that case, you will be advised to do a thyroid profile and ultrasound abdomen and pelvis to rule out thyroid issues and PCOD-related (polycystic ovarian disease) issues.

Kindly follow up with the answer.

I hope this has helped you.
