Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

As my periods were late, my doctor suggested tablet Meprate 10 mg once a day for ten days. I started the medicine last week, skipped on the second day by mistake, and continued from the third day. I started noticing pink spotting after taking three doses of the medicine. Can this be due to periods without even completing the medicine course? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Missing the dose in between could be the reason for spotting. Because the medicine given to you is a hormonal pill, bleeding occurs when we stop it due to the withdrawal of this hormone from the body. So missing this for one day in between can also lead to spotting like this. I suggest continuing the tablet for five more days if you do not get proper periods; there is no need to take it for ten days now. Once the medicine is stopped, you will get the periods within three to five days. But if you experience proper bleeding in a day or two, you can stop it.

Kindly revert for more queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you for your reply, doctor.

My period was due on the 30th of last month. However, due to negative pregnancy test results and the absence of periods, I started taking tablet Meprate last week as prescribed by the doctor for ten days. Does the spotting indicate the beginning of the period flow? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As I mentioned, spotting was due to missing the dose in between. Now continue taking medicine for five days; after that, you will get your periods.

Thank you.
