Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a fever and tested positive for dengue.
Kindly suggest further action.
Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for the query.
I can understand your concern.
According to your statement, you have been suffering from fever and tested dengue positive as NS1 (non-structural protein 1) became positive.
Dengue is a viral infection that is spread by mosquitoes. Clinical presentation of dengue generally develops about five to eight days after being infected by dengue. Symptoms of dengue are high temperature with shivering, pain in the eyes, a pounding headache, muscle pain, joint pain, feeling unwell or sick, abdominal pain, loss of appetite or anorexia, widespread red rashes, etc.
These symptoms will usually subside within a week, but the patient can feel tired and unwell for several weeks afterward.
There is no specific treatment for dengue. Some medications and measures can only relieve the symptoms until the infection subsides.
I advise you to take tablet Paracetamol or Acetaminophen for relieving pain and fever. Never take NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like Ibuprofen or Aspirin, as these can develop bleeding problems in dengue patients.
Take plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration and rest adequately.
Patients with dengue will begin to feel better after a week, but it may take few weeks to feel your normal self again.
Take care.
