Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had braces for two and a half years. But, even after braces, I had a few flare teeth which I wanted to fix. So I got an extraction six months ago. But I hated how it made my face long and narrow. So I went back to my orthodontist and said I do not like it, and he said he would open the space for dental implants. Will my face turn like before after the procedure?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. You must have noticed by now that the motion of the teeth forward improves the profile. However, as rightly mentioned by the dentist, the space is insufficient for placing implants. Your face and profile may not look the same as before the treatment. However, the lip support from the teeth can be improved, giving a better appearance. For the implant to be placed, the movement of the teeth must ultimately happen. Once adequate space has been created, taking a radiograph will help determine whether the tooth movement has happened entirely. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply. Is it because my dental arch is narrow now? I came to know that premolar extraction can cause a narrower arch. My lips look narrow; maybe that is why they do not sit nicely. Is it too late for them to expand my dental arch somehow? It would help because this has caused me so much exhaustion, and I am so tired of feeling like I will never feel pretty like before. I regret getting extraction so badly. Do you think the profile would look better after the implant is placed, or will it just look worse?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. Your jaws can be expanded. No need to worry. Once the orthodontic treatment is complete, your smile will be better. If there are still some concerns about your smile, many advanced treatments like smile designing can enhance your smile later. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.
