Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently lost a crown, and as a result, I have to get the tooth out, and I have to get an implant. I have two teeth missing on the other side already for the last 10 years. They are all are molars, top, and bottom on the other side. I read that this can change the shape of the face, and I am worried even though it did not affect the other side. Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please do not pay attention to such misconceptions. The treatment has now become very aesthetic and sophisticated. You should not worry at all about aesthetics.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

But I am worried that the missing tooth will affect the shape of my face while I am waiting for the implant.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I want to share with you the fact that the residual ridge resorption (bone loss in the area of absence of teeth) is one mm per year and your age does not seem to be a factor. Furthermore, agreed that some amount of bone might have been lost during the total time taken.

For implants, we take a CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) and measure all the dimensions in the selection of implant placement site (with the comparison between favorable and unfavorable factors) and assess if bone graft or augmentation is required or not. It is adding extra bone where the resorption is excessive and may raise questions for primary stability of the implant. All these aspects will be explained to you once you have undergone CBCT, and it is best to plan implant surgery in about three weeks of getting CBCT done. Finally, resorption of bone slowers with time. Any amount of bone can be grafted and augmented, so do not worry about it. All that is required for the implant to be successful is the stability.

Aesthetics does not get into the way. Your facial contours or features will not get altered or worsened with implants, but I would rather assure you that earlier you got for implants and rehabilitation, the more it will enhance and even improve your facial features, contours, and aesthetics. I hope I have resolved your questions.
