What is the treatment for broken tooth after filling?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a severe toothache, and after getting a permanent tooth filling done, tiny pieces of tooth started to break. Now the tooth is completely fallen out, and when he consulted a doctor, he was told a dental implant of the tooth must be done because RCT can be done, but as there is no root, the cap might come off again and again.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am having trouble understanding your question completely. If there was no root, then how was the filling done? And which tooth are you concerned about? Answer me with a photograph of the same in your follow-up.

As far as your problem is concerned, permanent fillings do not come out that easily, provided the manipulation, filling, and post-filling procedures were all done correctly.

Secondly, yes, you can go for RCT only if there is a healthy supporting root. As for the implant, you can opt for it; it is a suitable choice if you wish. You may also consider a prosthodontic bridge, provided your adjacent teeth are healthy enough to provide support. In the bridge, we take support from one or two adjoining teeth, and thus a set of 2 to 3 crowns is fixed on healthy teeth; hence, your missing teeth receive a crown.

Thank you.

I hope this helps.
