This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have pain in my lower front teeth. I do not know what has happened, but there is a swelling on the gums. I have Amoxicillin and Ibuprofen tablets with me. Can I take them to control my pain? I have an appointment with my dentist tomorrow. I cannot wait for a day with this deadly pain. Please suggest me a remedy.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The teeth ache and swelling in the gums can be due to an infection in the apical region or gums. I suggest you take antibiotics and pain killers for three days (consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent). If you have already taken the tablet Amoxicillin and Ibuprofen, you can continue taking them.

Instead of Ibuprofen, I suggest you take the tablet Paracetamol for relief and apply Dentogel (Choline Salicylate and Lidocaine) at the site of pain. Apply a small pea size of ointment to the surrounding area of the teeth for ten minutes. Avoid eating or drinking after applying the ointment. If your pain does not stop or you have any allergy to the medicine, kindly stop taking the medication.

I suggest you do warm water and salt gargles. Massage the gums in the lower front teeth region. Avoid biting anything hard. This will help you prevent pain till tomorrow. I suggest you consult a dentist and go for root canal treatment or scaling or extraction, depending on the situation of the teeth.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
