How to use a tooth retainer? Is it advisable to remove it while brushing or eating?

I understand your concern.

There are fixed and removable retainers (Hawley's and Essix). I hope you have a removable type of retainer. It is best to remove them during brushing and eating, but they should be worn immediately afterward.

Whenever you remove your retainer, you must store it in water if it is a Hawley's type (acrylic with metal wire). If it is an Essix retainer (clear plastic), it must be stored in a container as it is fragile. Also, you must wash them gently before sleeping and after after waking up.
