Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am in a relationship with a guy for five years. His parents are anxious to get us married while my parents want me to settle in life. I am a doctor preparing for my PG entrance. So I want to take some time. The guy is also forcing me to go and live with him which I cannot do to my lovely family.

I feel depressed as I am unable to handle situations. Please do help me.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

What you want is all that matters. First of all, make a decision for yourself and then stick to it. If you want to study and settle professionally first then talk with him and express your desire. Tell him that you love him but right now your priority is your carrier. If he truly loves you he will understand, after all, love is all about mutual understanding and trust.

Regarding depressive symptoms do a self-rating test of depression like Zung's self-rating depression scale which you can easily find online and if it is indicative of moderate to severe depression consult a psychiatrist in person for detailed evaluation and treatment.

Certain steps that can be of help:

  1. Meditate daily for at least half an hour in the morning. It will help you to relax and focus.
  2. Aerobic exercises for at least half an hour thrice a week are especially helpful.
  3. Share your feelings with family or close friends as sharing helps a lot. If that is not feasible maintain a stress diary and daily log down your thoughts uncensored.
  4. Follow a flexible routine and take a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids.

Remember every problem has a solution you just need to try solving it and help is just a step away. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
