Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 47-year-old male. Recently, I have been experiencing frequent episodes of diarrhea and would appreciate guidance on its potential causes, management, and when it might be necessary to seek medical attention. Additionally, are there specific symptoms or warning signs I should be attentive to that might indicate a more serious underlying issue requiring immediate medical attention? I am interested in understanding dietary adjustments or home remedies that may help in managing or alleviating the symptoms of diarrhea.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Diarrhea can be related to gut infections, known as infective diarrhea, or it can be non-infective due to certain foods, gut sensitivity, etc. Alarming features include persistent symptoms lasting more than four weeks, blood in stools or black-colored stools, unintentional weight loss, and a family history of gut-related problems like ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, or any cancer. Lifestyle modifications include avoiding eating out, reheating meals, and consuming alcohol. Instead, opt for freshly cooked home meals for two to three weeks. Add probiotics to your diet regularly, either commercially available probiotic sachets, capsules, or yogurt.

Simple investigations should be done, such as a complete blood profile, stool detail examination, and ultrasound of the abdomen. In your case, if there are any alarming features, as I mentioned above, you need to physically visit a nearby doctor. If the above features are negative, then lifestyle modifications, probiotics, and monitoring symptoms for two weeks. If symptoms persist, conduct the simple investigations as suggested above.

I hope you find this information useful. Feel free to ask if you need more information.

Thanks for using icliniq, and have a nice day.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
