How to maintain normal diastolic blood pressure?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My blood pressure runs at about 135/70 mm of Hg and drops to about 125/60 mm of Hg when I wake from sleep at night. I am on Candesartan 32 mg and Reaptan (Arginine plus Amlodipine) for blood pressure. I also take Duodart for prostate issues which contains the alpha-blocker Tamsulosin. I am concerned that my diastolic pressure gets too low, particularly when sleeping. This has been going on for few months. My blood tests are normal including the thyroid tests. If I had to drop one of my blood pressure tablets which one will increase my diastolic reading to maintain the good systolic blood pressure?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for your query.

You take Reaptan (Perindopril Arginine and Amlodipine). It is completely contraindicated to take both Perindopril and Candesartan at the same time. I strongly suggest that you stop Candesartan. Tamsulosin is good for both your prostate and blood pressure. Also, it is advisable to take Reaptan in the morning and Tamsulosin in the evening.
