It is uncomfortable to swallow and move my head after a throat injury. Please help.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I got hit by a ball in my throat yesterday, and today it is uncomfortable to swallow and move my head in certain places. I have not applied ice or done anything because it has worsened throughout the day, and I thought it would go away. I am a female and have never got any other throat injuries. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There is absolutely nothing to worry. Blunt trauma over the neck can result in soft tissue inflammation of the underlying structures, which could be why trouble or painful swallowing is present. It would take atleast two weeks for this inflammation to subside, and things should be fine following this period. Please understand that any gastric issues can potentiate reflux, and the problems might seem to persist. This entity, if present, should be treated accordingly. Any discomfort existing for more than two weeks should be evaluated accordingly to initiate and give appropriate treatment. I hope this answers your query. If there is anything more you need to know or inquire about, please let us know, and we will get back. Warm regards.
