How to treat persistent back pain due to sciatica?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from back pain for the past three years. Sciatica treatment and medicine did not reduce my pain. My MRI report shows a bulge in my L4, L5, and S1. Exercise and physiotherapy did not reduce my pain. Now, I am taking only Vitamin and Calcium tablets. Sitting for longer periods increases my pain, which radiates to my left leg. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw your query regarding disc prolapse (a condition that occurs when the soft tissue cushion between the bones in the spine bulges outwards), resulting in back pain radiating down the legs. I need to ascertain this after examining your MRI films. Once confirmed, you will get relief from a selective nerve root injection, along with physical therapy and lifestyle changes. Sciatica is relatively straightforward to treat with pain injections in most situations.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
