Hello doctor,
I was in a nightclub the other day, and so many people dropped their glasses on the floor unfourtanetly, so there were so many shattered pieces of glass on the floor. When I came home, I realized I had one or two little grazes or minor cuts, which are no deeper than 0.5 cm. But I am not sure if it happened in the club. Both of them were not bleeding. I noticed small glass pieces on my feet, which I then washed away with water. Is it possible to get a bloodborne disease through this wound?
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your query.
The chances of acquiring blood-borne infection this way are very low. If the sharp glass particle came in contact with the infected person's blood a few minutes back and has caused a wound on you, then there are chances of spread of blood-borne infections. The risk increases with the size of the glass piece, the amount of blood present in it, and the time of contact with infected blood. Infection can also spread through existing wounds coming in contact with the infected glass materials. Though there is very a low risk, there are no cases reported being infected from this kind of scenario. So do not worry. You will be fine.
Take care.
