Is it good to walk after a screw is removed from the rod in an operated femur that was broken four months ago?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 17 years old, and four months ago, my femur was broken in an accident. The next day operation took place, and a rod was put in the bone. Now, after four months, the two screws of the rod (the upper one) are removed, and the doctor still advised me to walk with a stick. Is it a good thing to remove the screws? And why so?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your query.

Your femur surgery happened in this year, and it is now four months since the operation. So taking out screws is called dynamization which is pretty normal as far as an attempt for fracture healing is given. If you can send me your current X-rays, then I can let you know how to proceed further as far as mobilization is concerned and whether the fracture is healing satisfactorily or not.

Kindly get back to me should you need any further information.

Thanks and regards.
