Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is nine years old with an eating disorder. He always prefers to eat junk food. Even after having a tummy-full meal, he prefers to eat biscuits and chocolates. He also has problems with bowel movements. He either gets constipated, or the motion is loose, and he is not aware of it while he is wetting his pants. Please suggest how to make him get rid of this issue.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Young kids tend to prefer junk food over home-cooked meals. The habit of eating junk foods would improve gradually by cooking his favorite meals at home, intentionally avoiding eating out, and not bringing chocolates and biscuits at home. I suggest you add yogurt or commercially available probiotics to his diet once daily for two weeks. For constipation, add more vegetables and fruits to his diet. For persistent constipation, you can use Psyllium husk, half spoon in a glass of water, leave it for 30 minutes, and then drink, preferably in the morning after breakfast. For urine incontinence, he should visit a urologist once; he would need some lifestyle modifications and may need some medications, too.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
