Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I do not know why I am having trouble eating. Looking at food makes me nauseous. I eat less than 500 calories a day. What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It seems that you have psychologically conditioned yourself by thinking of food as a nauseating thing. Sometimes our brain gets us to think of anything that is not good for us by sending some motor signals to the abdominal muscles.

So one cause can be psychological and the other cause can be gastric reflux in case you have any heartburn or epigastric pain accompanied with nausea.

The drug Sertraline (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) also has a side effect of abdominal discomfort, nausea, and diarrhea. So this can be the third cause.

I would recommend you consult a specialist doctor. As far as the first cause is concerned, you should try to break your habitual reflex with certain maneuvers and lifestyle changes.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
