Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been dealing with eczema since childhood. I have severe rashes on the inner corners of both my elbows, as well as on my neck and other areas of my body. These rashes have persisted for a significant period of time, and I am seeking advice on products or methods to alleviate them. I have previously visited a dermatologist, who diagnosed me with eczema. However, my condition has not shown improvement. The rashes are itchy and negatively impact my appearance. Currently, I am using Tacrolimus and petroleum jelly which unfortunately causes itching. I am also taking Cetirizine for relief. Kindly provide suggestions to relieve my symptoms.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. Based on the information you provided and the pictures you attached (attachment removed to protect patient's identity) it appears that you have eczema, which may have a genetic component due to family history. Atopic dermatitis, the most common form of eczema, cannot be cured but can be effectively managed. To address your current active eczema, I suggest you follow the instructions given below:

  1. Apply potent topical steroids that are called corticosteroids for two weeks. Additionally, use a good moisturizer frequently, especially after bathing while your body is still damp.
  2. Use a mild pH balanced soap for bathing.
  3. Use cotton towels to minimize irritation.
  4. Choose loose-fitting clothing made of cotton fabric.
  5. Take short baths with lukewarm water.
  6. Avoid contact with dust as much as possible.
  7. Keep your skin hydrated by using moisturizers that contain ceramides.

By following these measures, you can effectively manage your eczema symptoms and keep your skin well-hydrated. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
