What causes a painful, itchy rash on the forehead?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a severe rash on my forehead, which is painful and itchy. It occurred a month ago, went away, and came back now. Can you kindly take a look and advise on the treatment? I fear this may be a sign of skin allergy or the onset of cancer. I have tried to use Fluticasone propionate, Flutivate, and Ketoderm-Hydroval Cr AA 50:50 gm cream.

Please help.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have sent the images.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

I have reviewed the attached photographs (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is not cancer. It looks like an infected eczematous rash. I would recommend you take tablet Fexofenadine 180 milligrams twice daily, tablet Cefixime 200 milligrams twice daily for five days, and apply a cream containing a combination of Mometasone and Fusidic acid on the affected areas twice daily for ten days. Continue this for ten days and revert.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I was prescribed Betaderm and Blexten tablets. I have been using that for about 17 days now. It cleared off at first, but it's the same again. I have some Deflazacort tablets. Does that help?

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Yes, you can take tablet Deflazacort 6 milligrams, two tablets once daily for another 10 days. Instead of Betaderm (Betamethasone) cream, you can go for Momate cream (Mometasone) twice daily.

Once more, thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I will check with my doctor if Momate cream can be prescribed to me. I do have a stock of Fexofenadine and Deflazacort. I have been taking three Deflazacort tablets per day since yesterday. Is it suitable, or should it be a lesser dose?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Yes, you can go for a few days of Deflazacort, three tablets a day. It will speed up the recovery. A short course of oral steroids will not cause any side effects. If you do not get Mometasone (Momate cream), you can go for Clobetasol propionate cream or Betamethasone cream also.

I hope this answers your concern.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I took Deflazacort three tablets a day for two days. Somehow, I feel slight pain in my abdomen and a diarrhea-like feeling along with tiredness. Is that a side effect?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

Deflazacort can cause gastritis and acidity. That is why you are experiencing abdominal pain and diarrhea. Take an antacid medicine like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole before breakfast. Take Deflazacort after breakfast. This will relieve your problem.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out in case of further queries.

Thank you.
