I have redness in both the eyes, which recurs once the medications are stopped. Why?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have redness in both the eyes. The doctor suggested Nepalact and Eyemist eye drops but after one month the same problem continues.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the attached reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), the doctor has written the diagnosis as episcleritis, and the drugs given are for allergy. That is why there is no improvement.

Kindly discontinue the previous medicines and start the following.

1) Moxi D (Moxifloxacin and Dexamethasone) eye drops four times a day.

2) Tropicamide eye drops at bedtime.

3) Teardrops (Carboxymethylcellulose) four times a day.

It would be better if you upload a picture so I can guide you better.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

I have attached the photo of the left eye.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

From the attached picture (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), it is an episcleritis. Start the medications I have told. In two weeks you will be fine.

It is an inflammation of the vessels of the eyes.

If it happens again, we will have to do some blood tests to know the cause.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is it due to steam vaporizer? I use it two times a day for the last four months.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, it has nothing to do with that. It occurs because of decreased immunity in 90% of cases like a mild fever or cold. Or due to any prolonged underlying disease. If it happens again, then we shall evaluate the cause.

There is nothing to worry about as of now.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The redness in the left eye (same eye) has increased. At 3.30 AM, redness was the same as yesterday night. But after putting Tropicacyl, it has increased in the morning. I am worried.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

This is a subconjunctival hemorrhage. This is not due to any medication. One of the arteries of your conjunctiva has bled. It can occur due to sneezing, coughing, rubbing your eyes, or due to increased blood pressure. If your vision is fine, then nothing to worry about.

For this use these medications:

1) Tablet Limcee (Vitamin C) four times a day.

2) Tablet Chymoral Forte (Trypsin-Chymotrypsin) twice a day.

And do not put Tropicacyl late at night. Use it around 8 pm so that its effect goes off by morning. It is for relieving pain and inflammation.
