Hi doctor,

Is it normal to see tiny specks in vision when looking at a plain wall or plain surface, or when in darkness? My retina check is fine. Is it something to worry about?

Yes, it is very much normal to see specks in vision. It is more realized by a normal person while looking at a plain wall or in dark areas. There is a fluid called vitreous in the posterior cavity of the eyeball. It is in gel form, but as age advances, this fluid starts liquefying slowly. This vitreous liquefaction casts a shadow on the retina. Sometimes, it also happens due to dryness of the eyes, for which lubricant eye drops are suggested. So, there is no need to worry until it is marked or causes any disturbance in vision.

You said there is no need to worry till it is marked or causes disturbance in vision. Actually, it is already marked and noticeable on certain surfaces or conditions. And sometimes it makes me feel tense. But you said that all normal people see this. Does that mean I should ignore it? Probably. Should I be aware of any other disturbance in vision? Is there any way to make vision crystal clear? Also, on the white of my eye, I have a small brown line. I read somewhere that it is a melanin pigment and is usually present in some races. In case it changes its shape or size, then it needs to be checked. Is this true?

Please help.

This brown line, a melanin deposition, is also not a pathological finding. Until and unless there is any problem in vision, do not get scared either for this deposition or for vitreous degeneration.

Is it also normal to see these tiny specks on dark surfaces sometimes? I understand something visible in a light color will surely be present on other surfaces too, but it will be less prominent. And there is a term, closed-eye visualization, which also makes me feel that such things will be normal in darkness.
