Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I need a quick answer about a very serious matter. According to the doctors, my mother ended up at the emergency room this morning because she suffered from an acute episode of high eye pressure. At the hospital, they ran some tests and concluded that she would need laser surgery because a canal was apparently blocked. So they performed the laser surgery, but her sight did not return, and she still had headaches. The problem that worries me the most is that they suggested she should have laser eye surgery for the other eye to prevent the same from happening. As I read on many sites, this surgery could diminish vision irreversibly. My question comes here, is it a good idea to perform surgery on both eyes with only three days of time lapse between them? Could it be done differently? We fear she might lose sight in both eyes. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The treating doctor has suggested the correct, standard, and safest treatment for acute congestive glaucoma in her affected eye and preventive treatment for the other eye. The YAG laser creates an additional channel for fluid drainage from within the eye to control intraocular pressure. Whatever damage in the visual field was detected only in the past. Once the pressure comes under control, it will reduce further loss. I hope this helps you. Thank you.
