Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I use laptop for eight hours a day and it caused stress to my eyes even while using glasses. Again I did an eye checkup and the doctor told me that I have weak eyesight especially on the right eye and I am unable to see distant objects clearly. After that, I brought a new glass with an antiglare shield and I used it for two days. After using these new glasses, I started to have more stress on my eyes with headaches, and thus I have problems while working on my laptop. What is the problem? Please mention whether this new glass does not suit me. Does it take time to adjust these glasses?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I presume that you were tested by an ophthalmologist and not by an optical shop. After using new spectacles, your eyestrain can be increased because the power can be too high for your requirement especially if it is a minus power. Any overcorrection of minus can cause more eyestrain. This is possible when the prescription is wrong or when the glasses are made wrongly. Usually, an antiglare coating should not cause a problem. You can take the spectacles back to the optician and see whether the power is correct in it. They check it by using machines. To reduce eyestrains, try to take frequent breaks while using laptops. Follow 20/20/20 rule. For every 20 minutes focus on an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. You can also use lubricating eye drops three to four times a day. Try to wear your new glasses constantly for a few days. It usually takes time to have adjustment. But it should not cause more eyestrain than you had before.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
