My eyes are strained with intense pain on seeing the light. Please help.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Why do my eyes squint even in dull light? I am on my computer all day, so I thought it might be strained eyes. Sometimes when I go near a window with sunlight, I can get this intense pain in my eyes. Do I need glasses, or is this a dry eye issue?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

How old are you? And how long have you been facing this problem? Has it been the same, or does it increase with time? Do you have any known error of refraction? I would say two things. First, I believe your eyes are strained from the computer, and it is dry. Second, you have an allergy, most probably from the sunlight or the air, which is common. Please follow the treatment. Reduce your computer usage and screen time. Try to use blue light filters. Use lubricating eye drops with Methylcellulose five times a day for ten days. Antihistamine eye drops three times a day for days. Antihistamine tablets once before sleep for ten days. Follow up after a week.

I hope this addresses your concern.

Please provide comments and let me know if you have any more questions.

I would be pleased to assist you further.

Thank you.
