Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 26-year-old male. I was consuming Finax 1 mg for the past nine months, I just stopped it a month back. I am consuming Betnesol forte as well and I am still continuing with it. I and my wife are planning to have a baby, so I have some questions.

  1. Is it the right time to plan a baby looking at my medical history? Or should I wait? And if yes, then how long?
  2. Should I stop taking Betnesol forte or I can continue with it?
  3. Due to my past consumption of Finax, can there be any negative effect on my wife or on the baby?
  4. Should I go under a medical test before planning a baby?

Kindy help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. These medications can be harmful only if your wife is having them. Baby is exposed to these medicines when in mother's womb, as it gets the blood flow from mother. But if the father takes it, it stays there, the baby is not getting your blood supply. If you are worried about these medicines affecting the health of sperm, do not worry at all. We give Betnesol and drugs like Finax to improve blood flow to the testis and improve the health of sperm. The only conditions that affect sperm are if you smoke or drink or if you have a severe infection anywhere in your body. They reduce the health of sperm and motility, so they will not reach up to the egg, so no chance of pregnancy. I suggest you to have a semen analysis, with three to six days of abstinence. Sex not less than three days, not more than six days before the test. Pass urine, wash penis and hand with water only, no soap as it kills sperms, and collect completely. The initial clear part is rich in sperms.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
