Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 4-year-old son is having a fever for the last four days with temperature going up to 101 degrees Fahrenheit and gave him Panadol and Augmentin BD syrup for seven days a few days back. We consulted a doctor, who advised CBC and CRP tests, and the results were normal. However, he had flu and a cough. Can these two things cause fever? If yes, then in how many days fever can go away? Are any further tests required? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Flu and cough are suggestive of viral infections, which can accompany fever. Viral fever usually takes three to five days to subside, depending upon the child's immunity. I would suggest giving medicine for fever whenever required and warm saline gargle three to four times a day. Three is no need for further investigation, and it will subside on its own. If the fever persists for more than three days, further investigation may be needed.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
