Why do I have recurrent fever with high CRP and ESR?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
For the past seven days, I have had a fever, headache, and body weakness. In the middle of the two days, there was no fever, but there was weakness. But tomorrow the fever comes again. I had some tests yesterday, such as CBC, dengue, and CRP. Dengue is negative, ESR 35, and CRP 48 mg/l.
Please help. Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Based on your query, you have a persistent fever, headache, and body weakness, especially when your initial test results have not identified a clear cause.
The pattern you describe, a fever that comes and goes, may suggest an infection (viral or bacterial) rather than dengue. Other possibilities include malaria, typhoid fever, or systemic infections, depending on your local exposure risks.
Your complete blood count (CBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels indicate inflammation, meaning your body is actively fighting an infection. The normal dengue test result is reassuring, suggesting that dengue fever is unlikely.
It is important to follow up with your doctor promptly for further evaluation, which may include:
-
Additional blood tests (for malaria, typhoid, or other infections).
-
Urine analysis (to rule out urinary infections).
-
Chest X-ray or ultrasound if indicated, to identify hidden sources of infection.
In the meantime:
-
Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
-
Take adequate rest.
-
Monitor your temperature and symptoms regularly.
-
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop high-grade fever, severe headache, shortness of breath, persistent vomiting, or confusion.
With timely medical care and proper investigation, the cause can be identified, and treatment can be started to help you recover safely.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
