Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a cut or a fissure on the surface of my tongue which is covered with a white coating. The tongue has been sore for several days and there is no trauma that I can remember which could have caused this.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It seems to be a mild infection and loss of surface epithelium over the tongue. Usually, if it occurs, it will take 10 to 14 days to heal completely. However, it may be painful for about five days.

I suggest you to gargle with warm water mixed with salt twice a day for a week. Also, apply an antibiotic gel to the affected area for ten minutes. This will help in faster healing.

If these sores are frequent, I suggest you to take a tablet of vitamin B complex (multivitamin supplement) every day for 15 days.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
