How to include flossing in daily dental hygiene routine?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am new to flossing. Can you brief me on how to use it, frequency, method, and best brand? I already brush twice daily and rinse my mouth after that with a mouth rinse. But already afraid to floss, fearing it would cut my gums if I did not use it the right way. The doctor guided me on this. I want to include it in my brushing routine. I am highly conscious of my oral health and want to maintain it perfectly.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Upon review, these were the findings-

  1. Dental floss use.
  2. Mouthrinse use.

Elaborately these are to be done for-.

  1. Dental floss is used to clean interdental areas below the contact point and gingival papilla.
  2. Mouthrinse should not be used continuously for more than 7 to 10 days. Incorporate it only when required.

Treatment advise -

  1. Dental floss is tied (rolled) onto the two index fingers of both hands, then stretched and pushed down between two teeth. Move it back forth, which cleans interdentally.
  2. Teeth sensitivity could be reduced by using anti-sensitive toothpaste.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
