Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been on Prozac 40 mg for anxiety and depression. My psychiatrist also prescribed Tranxene (clorazepate) 5 mg, which I have been taking every night to help with anxiety-related insomnia for the past 4 months. I understand that this is a very low dose but still a benzodiazepine. Should I continue it?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, you are right it is a benzodiazepine but in the short term, it is completely safe. It is very effective against anxiety and insomnia. You should not discontinue it without asking your psychiatrist till that time you may take it without changing the dose. The psychiatrist will taper off the dose in your next visit if you are feeling completely fine.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
