Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father is 65 years old. He has a pungent and foul smell while sneezing. He has this issue for a couple of months. What is the remedy?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There is nothing to worry. Some people can have sneezing with a pungent smell and it is determined genetically without any underlying condition. In your case, the most likely cause is due to allergies and it causes stasis of secretions in the sinuses leading to bacterial growth and breakdown of ketone products produce a pungent odor. If your father is asymptomatic, he needs to douche the nasal cavity with normal saline. It is available in premixed sachets. He can use Nasowash to douche the nasal cavity four to five times a day to wash out the retained secretions in the nose. Your father will become fine within a week or two and the odor will disappear soon. He needs to take care of allergic symptoms by avoiding the triggering agents. It is good to wear an N95 mask when he gets exposed to triggering agents.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
