Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I noticed a dark brown spot under my eyebrow last year and it has gotten larger and darker over time. It is in an imperfect oval shape, with one side much darker brown than the other. I have psoriatic arthritis and have taken immune system-suppressing drugs over the last three years. I also have taken Humira for a couple of months and Prednisone approximately two to three times per year. I am currently using an Albuterol inhaler regularly. I am concerned if the spot is cancerous. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

After reviewing the description and the photos attached,(attachments have been removed to protect the patient's identity) it seems you have freckles. Freckles or ephelis are common in individuals who sunburn easily and do not tan. It is uncommon among people who have dark skin. I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions.

  1. Use 30% trichloroacetic acid cautery (TCA) or Depiwhite cream (Kojic acid) as a topical treatment and apply during the night daily for 16 weeks.
  2. Avoid mid-day sun especially 10 AM to 4 PM.
  3. Seek shade whenever possible.
  4. Wear broad-brimmed hats.
  5. Apply Suncros soft gel (Octinoxate) sunscreen with SPF (sun protection factor) 50 + daily in the morning all over the face can be repeated once after four hours.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
