Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 28-year-old male and have freckles on my face. I donated blood three years ago, and freckles appeared on my face after some time. I have attached my photo, kindly suggest medicine.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw your clinical picture (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), and In my opinion you have melasma. This is not freckles. Melasma is a condition where the skin over the cheeks, nose, eyebrows, and upper lip becomes brown. This is most of the time hormonal, especially in females. Other factors involved are sun exposure. Sometimes it is difficult to pinpoint the cause. This condition stays for years, like up to ten years, then disappears. The pigmentation can be lightened with medications and regular use of sunscreens. I suggest you use Demelan cream, a combination of Kojic acid, Glycolic acid, and Arbutin. Apply to dark spots only at night. A sunscreen with SPF 50 is essential; apply to the entire face 30 minutes before stepping out during day hours. Also, use a Glycolic acid face wash. Avoid hair dye and smoking, as these make the dark spots even darker. I suggest you consult a specialist and with their consent use. Thank you.
