Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had my (frozen) embryo transfer 15 days ago. I have gone through ICSI and having PCOD. I am using Progesterone six tablets orally and two Gestone tablets vaginally. My doctor advised me to take a complete bed rest for a few days. But, my situation cannot support me to have rest. I am taking preg test since four days.. Till now, I did not get a positive result. I am scared about it. I am feeling tensed and about to cry. I am trying to conceive for four years. I am having menstrual cramps for the past five days. There is a sharp pain in the abdomen, and I am feeling tired. I did not notice any spotting. Is there anything to worry?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

First, let me say do not get so tensed about the result. We always hope to be within that 40% to 45 % positive cases, but always be ready for the remaining 55% to 60% negative too. After embryo transfer, the best method to confirm is serum beta-hCG on day 13 or 14 after transfer. Even if the smallest of pregnancy, you will have values above 10-20 mIU/mL. Higher the value is the better. If below 10 mIU/ml, then it is mostly negative.

If you are still on those progesterone medicines, you will not get periods. You will have cramps and discharge. I would advise checking beta hCG tomorrow. If you get a negative value, then stop all medications and you will have periods may be heavy with clots and painful for a few days. If positive, then continue medications for another two to three weeks and have a scan to see the baby. Get back to routine activities. Latest studies say that no rest is needed after embryo transfer. It will make you feel more sick. Even if negative do not worry. It is not the end of the road; you can transfer any more frozen embryo left. Never lose hope. You will get pregnant for sure.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
