Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I went to the fertility doctor to start an egg retrieval. He did a vaginal ultrasound, which had a condom on it. A few days later, I had a spot on my skin bleeding and burning. One to two months later, I had a massive burning, painful outbreak of psoriasis and weird skin-burning sensations. This lasted for almost three to four months. I also got a pink psoriasis-looking blotch on my lower pelvis for three days, which then went away. I was tested before the doctor's visit for HSV and HPV and both came back negative. I have always been negative for years. Is there any chance I could have caught these viruses from the ultrasound probe being unclean?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Vaginal ultrasound is carried out with the probe being covered by a condom and disinfected gloves being worn by the radiologist or gynecologist (whoever is doing it). That is the standard protocol. If such a protocol had not been followed, infection transmission is possible. Psoriasis is not an infective condition, it is an autoimmune disease, unlikely to be transmitted in this manner. You need to consult a dermatologist for the same. As for HPV (human papillomavirus), and HSV (herpes simplex virus), you can get tested to be assured.
Thank you.
