Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What is the difference between the penile ulcerations caused by herpes and the ones caused by candidiasis? How can I know the difference between the two? A person who has many ulcerations on the penis is likely to have herpes or a candidiasis?

Answered by Dr. Sushil Kakkar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I have gone through your query, and I have noted your concern. Herpes is painful and associated with burning micturition (voiding) whereas Candida is usually itchy and not so discomforting when compared to herpes. The candida ulcers are superficial and macerated whereas herpes ulcerations are well-defined erosions with polycyclic margins. Regards.
