Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a male and have been in a relationship with my girlfriend for three years. We have had sexual encounters with each other. Recently I had bumps appearing on my penis and went to a doctor, and they did a biopsy. They told me it was verruca vulgaris (the common wart). I am so confused about how this could happen because we have only been with each other, which is becoming very stressful. Are there any other ways to get these common warts infections? My dermatologist said I could have infected myself by shaking hands with the wrong person and spreading them to myself. I work in the hospital. Are there any chances that I got this infection from other patients?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Genital warts are frustrating. Warts are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus). It is very contagious and spreads from one person to another through contact. Contact can be from sexual acts or physical touch. It is possible to get warts from massage beds, sauna booths, and common showers in the gym. Since you have genital warts, you must avoid unprotected sexual contact with your partner until it is entirely resolved. I suggest your partner to visit a gynecologist to have an examination done to ensure she has not contracted warts from you.

Thank you.
