Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My doctor, a long time ago, said that I have GERD. It is an acid reflux condition. I get really disgusting burps that taste like rotten eggs and I get diarrhea. That will go on for about three hours and then I throw up and I feel fine. I take acid reducers but I still end up getting it. I have also tried eating less and drinking more water instead of tea and coke. Can you tell me anything that I can do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, you are having GERD which is gastric esophageal reflux disease which means acid of your stomach along with food regurgitate into your food pipe known as the esophagus. There are many causes for that like being overweight, excess tea, coffee or cold drinks intake, excess alcohol, chocolate, fatty food, going to bed immediately after eating especially dinner. And certain food as you mentioned.

First of all, you should avoid the food which causes these symptoms. Secondly, avoid coffee, cola, alcohol, chocolate, and fatty spicy food like burger, pizza, etc. Reduce your weight as you are over weight with 120 kg. Eat your dinner early with at least a gap of four hours between your dinner and going to bed. Place blocks under the head end of your bed so that your head end is elevated 30 degrees and food does not regurgitate into your food pipe. Along with that use following medications. Esomeprazole 40 mg, one before breakfast at least 30 minutes, syrup Gaviscon two tablespoons after meals three times a day, tablet Maxolon 10 mg, one tablet twice a day before meals 20 minutes. Use these medications for four weeks, then let me know.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
