Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I get acid -reflux during sleep after taking heavy meals late at night. I eat between 8 pm and 9 pm. It wakes me up and I find it difficult even to breathe until it settles down. But last night I had a light meal by 6 pm. I used a sleeping drop and placed 10 or 11 drops under my tongue to get a deep sleep. However, I woke up in between coughing and gasping for breath due to acid reflux. In this case, is the acid reflux caused by the excessive use of sleeping drops?

Thank you.

Hi,

We welcome you to the icliniq family.

I appreciate the confidence you place in me for your healthcare consultation.

Your symptoms are suggestive of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). It was not the sleep drops, but your reflux that made you wake up at night.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Did the sleep drop trigger it? This has not happened lately. This wheezing and being out of breath due to acid reflux never happens during the day when I am awake, it only happens while sleeping. Any reason why it never happens when I am awake?

Thank you.

Hi,

Glad to have you back!

I am here to help you get the best medical advice.

At times, worsening of reflux can present with such symptoms. I suggest the following medication:

1. Cap. Esomeprazole 40 mg twice daily before meals for two weeks.

2. Syrup. Gaviscon (Sodium alginate 250 mg, Sodium bicarbonate 133.5 mg, Calcium carbonate 80 mg) 2 teaspoonful thrice daily after a meal for two weeks.

3. Tablet. Monteleukast 10 mg at night for the wheezing. Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.

Sleeping drops do not make you wheeze. I suggest getting a Chest X-ray (PA view) and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy done.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. How can I tell if there is any damage to my esophagus?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Will they make me unconscious for this procedure?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your first query consult is on us!

It is done under conscious sedation, which means after the procedure which takes around seven to eight minutes, you will be awake. If you wish to be fully sedated during the procedure, then you can request your doctor for MAC-monitored anesthesia cover.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
