Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I went to the dentist last week and was diagnosed with gingivitis around the lower incisors due to them being slightly crooked. He cleaned them thoroughly. Now after a week, I am still in pain. How long can I expect to be in pain until it subsides and my gums are back to normal? I am following a full oral hygiene protocol set by my dentist.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Usually, gingivitis would take one week to heal completely after a thorough cleaning but it might slightly vary between individuals. It is good that you are following the oral hygiene measures. Because you say, there is persistent pain I suspect it to be a referred pain not from the lower front teeth but from any other teeth in the lower jaw. Considering your age, you got to check the position of your wisdom teeth. That is because, in most cases, wisdom teeth could be the culprit of the radiating pain. This can be confirmed with an X-ray. For pain relief, gargle your mouth with lukewarm salt water thrice daily instead of choosing painkillers continuously. Also, avoid hot and spicy food and aggressive brushing. These may cause pain in the cleaned area in spite of good oral hygiene.

Thank you.
